What has long been established in many sports has also found its way into sailing: a national league. Inspired by national leagues in football, ice hockey or handball, as well as successful sailing leagues abroad, the Swiss Sailing League represents Switzerland’s official national sailing league. It is the annual championship of Swiss sailing clubs, combining high-level competition with teamwork, strategy and tactical excellence. The league is organised by the Swiss Sailing League Association, a member of the Swiss Sailing Federation, which officially recognises it as the national sailing league.
The Racing Format
The Swiss Sailing League is built around a simple principle: the best club should win.
To ensure fair competition, all races are sailed on identical boats provided by the organiser. Success depends entirely on the sailors’ skills, teamwork and tactical execution.

- Teams of 4–5 sailors
- Identical boats for all competitors
- Short, action-packed races of approximately 15 minutes
- Multiple races against different opponents throughout each event
- On-the-water umpires who enforce the rules immediately
This umpired fleet racing format creates close racing, frequent manoeuvres and fast-paced decision-making, delivering an exciting experience for both sailors and spectators.

Race course
The League Structure
The Swiss Sailing League Open Series is organised into three divisions, each featuring 16 clubs:
- Super League (1st Division)
- Challenge League (2nd Division)
- Promotion League (3rd Division)
The Women’s League consists of two divisions, with 10–12 teams competing in each:
- Super League (1st Division)
- Challenge League (2nd Division)
For sailors under the age of 23, the annual Youth Cup provides a national platform for the next generation of sailing talent to compete against one another.
The highest-ranked clubs of the season qualify for international competition. The best clubs from the Mixed Series earn a place in the SAILING Champions League, while the top clubs from the Women’s League qualify for the Women’s SAILING Champions League. The best club with a youth team secures qualification for the Youth SAILING Champions League.
